Jose Enrique is prepared to take a pay cut to negotiate a transfer out of Championship side Newcastle United.

The Spanish defender is the latest player to voice his disillusionment at St James' Park as the club are still looking for a new manager and new owners.

The 23-year-old admits he would jump at the chance to return to Spain with Atletico Madrid thought to be trailing the former Villarreal man.

"If there's any interest from a Spanish club I'll take the offer seriously," said Enrique.

"I have a very good contract at Newcastle but in football terms I'm not feeling good

"I'll give up money from my contract as long I'm able to go back to Spain. I want to be successful in my career and money's not my main target.

"Newcastle don't have an owner and we don't even have a manager and with the season starting in a month. Everybody wants Alan Shearer to continue but nobody knows what's happening.

"Things are not right and the situation isn't good. I'm annoyed because it's the fans who are suffering."
